Through exhibits, tours and interactive displays visitors of the Salt Museum Salinas del Carmen in Fuerteventura gain a better understanding of how salt was traditionally extracted from sea water before being converted into a common kitchen ingredient. The museum is located next to Caleta de Fuste, where the first salt fields on the island were built several centuries ago. The white walls of the building and the impressive whale skeleton beside it are the tell-tale signs that you have found this fascinating museum.

Salt production and history

5.0/ 5

I recently visited Salinas del Carmen Museo in Fuerteventura and had an absolutely enjoyable experience. The museum provides visitors with an interesting and informative way to learn about the history of salt production in the Canary Islands. The museum takes you through the entire process of salt production, from the natural formation of salt in the ocean to the harvesting and processing techniques used by the locals. The exhibits are well designed, and the audiovisual presentations were engaging and informative. I was particularly impressed by the collection of historical artifacts on display, which gave me a deeper appreciation for the history of salt production. I would highly recommend that anyone visiting Fuerteventura take the time to visit Salinas del Carmen Museo. It’s a great way to spend a few hours, and you’ll come away with a new appreciation for the history of salt and its importance to the local community.
