Bodega Montoro
La Gomera is one of the most authentic islands of the Canary archipelago, famous for the genuineness of the local products, generated according to tradition. It has vegetation and climate that create unique aromas and the locals strive to preserve traditional flavours.

Near the town of Hermigua, surrounded by an unparalleled and breathtaking landscape, hidden among the island’s striated and impervious rock formations typical of La Gomera’s landscape, an enchanting expanse of green will capture your attention. The vineyard stands on stone terraces, a typical Gomerian way of cultivation, to deal with the impervious ground. Sun exposure, temperature and above all the minerals in the soil help the special grapes to make the wine taste exceptional.
What makes the finished product even more special is undoubtedly the care and attention that the Rodriguez Mendoza’s family has been putting into it for the last decades. Due to the soil formations on the island, the use of machines is not possible to help in cultivation: everything is done by hand, from planting to harvesting.

Spellbinding production methods
During our visit Mario enchanted us with the astonishing history of the place, telling us with natural ease how he has always taken care of the vineyard, a tradition handed down for generations. In addition to tasting the special wine produced in this place, you have the opportunity to visit the vineyard and listen to the sensational explanation of how the vines are cared for and how the steps of the grape harvest take place.

Describing important details about the care of the grapes and exhilarating details about the harvesting by hand, we learnt what features the uniqueness of the finished product: the attention to detail and the narrowness of the production. Although there are 4 varieties of wines produced, the production is limited to a few hundred bottles per year. Therefore, tasting these wines is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that can only be found in the Canary islands archipelago, specifically in a few hotels in La Gomera or Tenerife.

The taste is incomparable, impeccably flavoured. The exclusive tasting session is strictly accompanied by local products, in particular goat’s cheese, whose taste matches perfectly with the wine aroma. The green vineyards will guarantee a visual experience of rest and relaxation for the eyes, which will perfectly match the explosion of flavours for your palate.

Maintaining traditions by being sustainable
Mario explains and shows us how these places, in addition to being very difficult to cultivate, have been greatly affected by climate change, the trees sharply feel the effects of climate change, in fact wine production has dramatically decreased in recent years.

he context has also changed considerably, there has been a sad phenomenon of abandonment of the premises, understandable from the surrounding buildings. In such a delicate place, it is necessary to pass on knowledge so that it is not lost. Therefore, green practices and natural products are used to help the environment remain intact.
