Run entirely by volunteers in a community-style living setup, this eco-friendly Finca serves as a safe haven for over 500 animals, offering them a life free from force and pain. The sanctuary specializes in force-free training, emphasizing positive reinforcement and freedom of choice for its residents. One of the standout aspects of Tenerife Horse Rescue is its commitment to sustainability, upcycling, and green living.
Built from recycled materials found in bins or on their land, the sanctuary is a testament to eco-friendly construction. They’ve created a permaculture system, utilized recycled water for plants, and even generated electricity through handmade wind turbines and solar panels. At the heart of their sustainability efforts is the minimization of food costs. By partnering with local companies to repurpose waste food, Tenerife Horse Rescue ensures almost zero human food expenses, directing resources towards crucial needs like veterinary care and substantial horse food bills.
The sanctuary has also ventured into providing fully sustainable holiday accommodations, including a cave house and a Mongolian Yurt, inviting visitors to experience the sanctuary’s eco-friendly practices firsthand. Funds generated from these holiday rentals directly contribute to rescuing more animals and advancing their mission.
