When planning a great Canarian eco-adventure, foreign travelers inevitably conjure up images of stunning volcanic sand black beaches and luscious green hills with hidden villages. Few are aware of the mysterious and magical forests that await travelers in the Las Lagunitas forest. Tucked away between massive trees there exists an equally adventurous way to discover Tenerife’s forests: climbing to the very top of them.

Before the first sun rays fight their way through the thick blanket of clouds, fueled by excitement and yearning for a taste for freedom, we make our way through the green hills of Tenerife’s north. As the soft morning light breaks through the tall eucalyptus trees of the Las Lagunetas forest, the car journey blurs into the adventure in front of us. The crisp morning breeze colours our cheeks in a subtle shade of red as we are greeted by the Tenerife Forestal Park employees.

The sky is the only limit
Tree Climbing has been a long awaited adventure for the Canary Green team – as there is little time for team building when hunting for sustainable activities in Tenerife. Little did we know that we would learn just as much about our own character as we did about nature. Flying through trees and overcoming countless hurdles challenged us to push our limits and we were rewarded with breathtaking views.

Although still somewhat of a niche activity, tree climbing is emerging as one of the most novel and eco-friendly ways to explore and immerse oneself in Tenerife’s nature. Once outfitted with ropes, a harness, and other climbing gear, you can spend a couple of hours ascending gigantic trees, taking breaks to contemplate and photograph nature, and dangle in a deliciously suspended state 30 meters above the forest floor.

Tenerife Forestal Park offers a unique experience at the gates of Teide National Park. This is a leisure activity for everyone in the heights, surrounded by Canarian pines and a splendid landscape full of biodiversity in the protected area of Las Lagunetas. Our team member Valentina Zanghí sums up the adventure:
